Cool Mic: Help: Home
Home is where you start and stop your livestream once it's configured.
Items are explained as follows:
- "Vinny" (Cool Mic Mascot): You can share your broadcast link by tapping Vinny. He will copy your link to the clipboard for pasting into text messages, social network posts and any other app.
- Timer: The "Timer" shows you how long you have been broadcasting. It will retain the time after you stop your stream, until you start a new livestream or quit the app.
- Listeners: You can view how many current Listeners there are to your stream. The second number is the maximum number of concurrent listeners during your broadcast.
- State: This describes the current state of your connection to your configured Icecast server:
- Disconnected: You are not connected to an Icecast server.
- Connecting: You are in the process of connecting to an Icecast server.
- Connected: You are currently connected and broadcasting to an Icecast server.
- Reconnecting in N Sec: You have been disconnected from an Icecast server and, since "Auto-Reconnect" is enabled, Cool Mic will attempt to automatically reconnect you.
- VU Meters: The vertical VU meters on either side of the home screen give you a visual representation of how strong your source's audio signal is. Please see VU Meter for more information on how this works.
- Input Gain: You can adjust your input signal levels with the input gain slider(s). The resulting levels will be represented with the VU meters in realtime. If you are broadcasting in stereo (2 audio channels), you will have individual sliders for each channel (top slider = left channel, bottom slider = right channel). If you are broadcasting in mono (1 audio channel), you will have a single slider.
- "Start Livestream" Button: When you first launch Cool Mic, this button will display "Start Livestream". Tapping this button will start your livestream. While Cool Mic connects to the Icecast server, it will display, "Connecting". Once it has established a connection to the Icecast server and you are currently streaming it will display, "You Are Live - Tap to Stop". While you are live, if you tap + hold, Cool Mic will update the Icecast server with any newly configured data (Metadata such as Title + Artist info, codec quality level, VU-Meter interval). Tapping the button (without holding) will disconnect from the Icecast server and stop your livestream.
- "Play Audio Clip" Button: The "Play Audio Clip" button allows you to play a static audio file (Ogg/Opus or Ogg/Vorbis format) from your device in your running broadcast.
- Tapping "Play Audio Clip" will bring you to a file browser window where you will choose an existing "segment" (Ogg/Opus or Ogg/Vorbis audio files only, see below) to insert into your livestream.
- Once you choose a file, it will automatically play it within your running stream in realtime.
- You can queue audio files by selecting multiple files in a row - they will all play back to back.
- If you need to convert unsupported formats (such as MP3/WAV) to Opus or Vorbis to play within your stream, you can use third-party tools such as Audacity or any number of other (online and offline) conversion tools.
- Please note that your microphone is disabled whenever a segment is playing.
- When the last segment finishes, your broadcast will return to streaming live from your microphone or mic/line-in.
