Cool Mic: Help: Audio
The "Audio" screen is where you configure specifics of the audio stream to your configured Icecast 2.x server.
Entries are explained as follows:
- Codec: Your desired audio codec to stream in. Choices are "Ogg/Opus" and "Ogg/Vorbis". Ogg/Opus is a modern open source audio codec with many advantages for livestreaming. Ogg/Vorbis is an open source audio standard and has been around for a very long time. (Example: Ogg/Opus)
- Samplerate: Your desired audio samplerate. (Example: 44100)
- Channel Configuration: How many channels to stream. This will likely be "Mono (1 Channel)" for most phones and tablets using the internal microphone. If you are sure your audio source is providing 2 channels, select "Stereo (2 Channels)". (Example: Mono (1 Channel))
- Quality Level: The Opus/Vorbis quality level setting. The choices range from "-0.1" (lowest audio quality, lowest average bitrate) to "1.0" (highest audio quality, highest average bitrate). For low quality speech, the "-0.1" setting would likely suffice. For music and other high-fidelity audio sources, you will want a higher setting. Each codec (Ogg/Opus and Ogg/Vorbis) have their own 'sweet spots' for any audio source and it mostly depends on the nature of the audio source. Experiment around with quality settings depending on what kind of audio you are streaming. (Example: 0.3)
